You will learn how to quickly express the dramatic landscape with combinations of charcoal and grey toned pastels on watercolour paper. A great webinar to help you to loosen up with your drawing, begin to ‘feel’ the media of pastel and what it can do whilst appreciating how a tonal response to a landscape is an effective way of creating your first dramatic pastel and mixed media painting.
Autumn Glow

Moving into colour, you will explore complementary colour combinations of woodland autumn colours and deep cool shadows against a backdrop of a bright blue sky. In this webinar, you will learn how to layer sumptuous pastels with richly saturated directional strokes of colour – be prepared, remove the wrappers from your pastels! This webinar will teach you how side strokes are an effective way of painting with pastels.

With a focus on light, dark greens and bright fresh greens in this webinar you will learn how to simplify the scene and create a view of a coastal farm lane with interest and real presence. With drystone walls, woodland trees, and distant farm buildings as part of the scene, your mark-making will be both detailed and dynamic. The contrast between light and dark, rich colours and directness in approach capturing the freshness of spring air along this country coastal lane are sure to inspire!
Any pastel colour placed on black just glows! The emphasis in this webinar is on negative painting and confidence in application, with sumptuous marks using bright colours and rich darks in a really expressive way.
Getting to Grips with Greens

Looking ahead with optimism to the gorgeous colours of spring and early summer, learn how to create light and shade and real depth within the landscape across wooded fields and trees towards the distant moorland. The scene you will paint is a beautiful landscape vista in Ryedale, North Yorkshire filled with lots of visual interest, depth and distance stretching all the way to the North York Moors.

The webinar will take place on Zoom and will last for approximately 1 hour including a Q&A session (these are approximate timings and may vary slightly).
Once you have registered for the webinar, you'll receive an email confirmation containing your link to join the webinar on the day, plus Robert's suggested materials list and reference photograph for the session.
During the webinar, you'll have the opportunity to submit your questions and chat with fellow attendees using the Q&A and 'chat' buttons at the bottom of your screen.
The webinar will be recorded and will be made available to all registered attendees the day after the live session, for one month following the live webinar.

About Robert Dutton
For 30 years Robert had an extensive career as a professional Graphic Designer and Illustrator working for many companies such as KPMG and PricewaterhouseCooper (PwC).
Robert now works as a self employed fine artist and tutor, winning regular art awards for his distinctive and expressive style of work in numerous international competitions.
Robert’s drawings are regularly exhibited with Nitram Charcoal (from Canada) at Art World International in Frankfurt where his work has received much critical acclaim and attention from a wide range of international fine art businesses. He's a training partner for several leading UK art businesses and art holiday companies throughout the UK including Higham Hall and Rydal Hall in the Lake District and HF Holidays.
As a leading Canson Ambassador in the UK, he regularly teaches workshops promoting their fine art papers at many different popular events such as Patchings Art, Craft and Photography Festival near Nottingham and Ilkley Art show in West Yorkshire, amongst others.
He exhibits throughout the UK with a wide range of prestigious galleries (including Mall Galleries).
