Discover Easy Sweaters to Knit by Melanie Berg

Hi everyone, I'm Melanie Berg – though many of you know me better as mairlynd. I'm a knitwear designer based in Germany, and ever since I left my job as an IT specialist back in 2012, I've been living my dream: creating beautiful, modern knitwear that’s meant to be worn and loved.

I design with colour and texture in mind, always looking for that sweet spot between comfort and style. You’ll find clean lines, playful elements, and a little surprise here and there – be it in a construction detail or a bold colour combination.

I’m beyond thrilled that Easy Sweaters to Knit, the English version of my third book, is now coming out with Search Press in August. This book features 13 cozy sweaters, cardigans, and tops that reflect my personal journey as both a knitter and a designer. It’s about finding joy in handmade garments, trying something new, and falling in love with yarn all over again.

Let me introduce you to three of the designs you’ll find inside:

Quiet City
(Yes, the one on the cover!)

There’s a quiet kind of magic that settles over the city in the evening—and this design is made for exactly that moment.
Knit with Shibui Echo and Silk Cloud held together, the fabric is airy, drapey, and oh so elegant. A soft collar that can be worn turned in or out, hidden arm openings, and a diamond motif across the bust and shoulders make this piece a standout.

It’s one of those garments that instantly makes you feel wrapped in something special—just warm enough, beautifully shaped, and easy to wear.

Peach Fuzz
This one is very close to my heart.

Peach Fuzz is about strength. It’s about healing. It’s about those tender moments after cancer treatment when you start reclaiming your life—and your hair.
I named this sweater Peach Fuzz because I truly embraced that soft, funny regrowth after chemotherapy. And knitting this piece felt like a celebration of that new beginning.

It’s worked in Woolfolk yarn, soft as a cloud and just perfect for comfort.
And don't stress about gauge here—I've included notes on how to adjust the sizing if your tension is a little off. What matters most is that it fits you.

A Study in Pink
Sometimes, the most beautiful yarns ask for the simplest of patterns.

This sweater is a gentle nod to a Sherlock Holmes mystery, and it’s one of my favorite lace designs in the book. Worked seamlessly from the top down, A Study in Pink features delicate lace details at the yoke and hem, making it just the right balance of sweet and subtle.

It’s ideal for those special skeins of hand-dyed yarn you’ve been saving—like the soft heather pink I used here. Holmes himself would’ve noticed the brilliance in the depth of color!

I hope you’ll enjoy knitting these pieces as much as I loved designing them.
