Holly is a modern quilter and graphic designer from Winnipeg, Canada.
She has been sewing since the late ’90s when she studied fine arts and graphic design at the University of Manitoba. She used her sewing skills and love of fabric to create a trendy hat business that helped her pay her way through university and many years later, she started a baby clothing company called Small Potatoes, which she still operates today. In 2017 she discovered the world of modern quilting and was instantly smitten by the intersection of shape, colour, and fabric.
Holly is inspired by the world around her, from shapes in nature and architecture, to bold visual graphics. Her design aesthetic is heavily influenced by being a child of the ’80s and her go-to colour palette is bright and bold and often includes hot pinks and sunny yellows; she loves to play with different effects such as transparency and contrast, and enjoys using traditional quilt blocks and playfully modernising them, for example using curves.
